Shepley Reading Group meets at Shepley Library and Information Centre on the first Tuesday of each month, 07:30pm – 09:00pm.
We read books of all varieties and meet to discuss / share our views informally.
We choose our ‘monthly read’ from the vast selection of books available from Kirklees Library Service.
Some books are hugely popular, others less so, but all the members agree that by belonging to the reading group they are more likely to dip into books they would not necessarily have chosen for themselves, and this has led to some wonderful discoveries of new authors and subjects; and recommendations from other members.
Our emphasis is on reading for pleasure and that no one feels they have to finish a book they dislike.
If you have a love of literature, you’ll be most welcome – come and join us!
The book we are reading, to be discussed at September’s meeting is:
The Bolter by Frances Osborne.
There is no meeting in August.
As there are only 8 copies of the book available, this allows time for copies to be read and returned for others in the group.
The True Deceiver by Tove Jansson was thoroughly discussed at July’s meeting and the average score was 4 out of 6. A good evening was had by all and we welcomed a new member to the group.
The book we are reading, to be discussed at July’s meeting, is:
